The final stage of filming for the movie 'Mulla Nasreddin: Friend of Hard Days' has commenced in Kazakhstan. The shooting has already taken place in five Turkic countries, including Uzbekistan, and the dialogues will be conducted in six languages.

The full-length film will tell the story of one of the most famous characters of Eastern folklore — Mulla Nasreddin, whose tales combine humor, worldly wisdom, and satire. The project's authors aim to showcase the common cultural motifs and traditions of the Turkic peoples through his image.

The film crew has already visited Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Now the work has moved to Kazakhstan. The main locations include Almaty, the Almaty region, and Turkistan. Some scenes are planned to be shot near the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi.

The project emerged following the 40th meeting of the Permanent Council of Ministers of Culture of TURKSOY, held in 2023 in Shusha.

The director and screenwriter is People's Artist of Azerbaijan Vagif Mustafayev. The role of Khoja Nasreddin is played by Honored Artist of Kazakhstan Sagizbay Karabalin. The film also features Konysbek Bekaidarov, Ondasyn Beksikbasov, and Akerke Arys.

A distinctive feature of the film is its multilingualism. The characters will speak Kazakh, Azerbaijani, Turkish, Kyrgyz, Turkmen, and Uzbek.

The creators view the film not only as an adaptation of stories about a popular folklore character but also as a joint cultural project. Through the familiar image of Mulla Nasreddin, the authors aim to demonstrate the common traditions and worldview of the peoples of the region.

Earlier, the project of an animated film about Khoja Nasreddin was worked on by film director, screenwriter, production designer, producer, and founder of Bazelevs company Timur Bekmambetov.
