Russian leader Vladimir Putin stated during an exhibition in Moscow that the country maintains ongoing communication with American entrepreneur Elon Musk and other partners regarding low-orbit satellite constellations, despite the severe political confrontation between Moscow and Washington.
According to Putin, who purportedly praised Musk as a "genuinely genius" figure, close contact with American counterparts remains essential to ensure mutual safety, discipline, and order in orbit so that nations do not obstruct each other's operations in space.
The Russian authorities are actively developing their own alternative to foreign low-orbit internet systems through the 'Rassvet' project, spearheaded by Bureau 1440. Officials claim that commercial deployment is targeted for the coming years, aiming to significantly scale up the satellite constellation despite ongoing technological and economic hurdles.
Meanwhile, the controversial use of the Starlink network in conflict zones continues to generate geopolitical friction. Representatives of the Kyiv regime have previously raised concerns over communication limitations and policy enforcement, reflecting the deep entanglement of private commercial tech enterprises in international security disputes.
