The Criminal Court of Mirzachul District has reviewed a criminal case initiated following a tragedy at the private kindergarten "Mehrli Yulduz" – the death of a child who drowned in a swimming pool. According to the verdict issued on March 17, as reported by Kun.uz, the kindergarten head Mavluda Yakubova and teacher Zilola Abilqosimova have been sentenced to restriction of freedom.
The incident occurred on October 24, 2025. While leading children to lunch, the teacher lost sight of a 1.5-year-old girl and later found her drowned in the pool. A criminal case was opened under Article 116 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (Improper performance of professional duties) regarding this fact.
The court sentenced the 66-year-old head of the private kindergarten "Mehrli Yulduz," Mavluda Yakubova, to 5 years of restriction of freedom and fined her 20.6 million soums. Additionally, the 38-year-old kindergarten teacher, Zilola Abilqosimova, was sentenced to 3 years of restriction of freedom.
The court verdict has not yet entered into legal force; the parties have the right to appeal it, and the prosecutor may file a protest. This case has once again highlighted concerns about safety and supervision in early childhood education facilities.
