An investigation is underway in Samarkand into the death of a 70-year-old pensioner and former mahalla chairman. The man, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease and had a second-degree disability, died at his home on April 14 after being discharged from a psychiatric clinic. Relatives are demanding a fair investigation.
According to family members, the man disappeared from home on April 10, and it was later discovered that he had been taken to the Samarkand District Psychiatric Hospital. The family claims they were not informed about the hospitalization. They managed to bring him home only on April 13, but the patient's condition was extremely serious, and he remained unconscious for a day. He died the following day.
Relatives have filed a complaint with the Samarkand Prosecutor's Office. They allege that he may have been administered strong medications at the clinic, which worsened his condition. The family is demanding to find out who made the decision to hospitalize him, what drugs were prescribed, and who is responsible for the consequences.
The General Prosecutor's Office reported that a pre-investigation check is being conducted into the death, with circumstances of how the man ended up in the medical facility and the nature of the care provided being clarified. A forensic medical examination has been ordered, and a legal decision will be made based on its results.
In an official statement, the department emphasized that the check will be comprehensive and objective. Authorities expressed condolences to the family and close ones of the deceased. Previously, a convict serving a sentence in a strict-regime colony died in a hospital in Navoi, with relatives claiming there were signs of beating on the prisoner's body.
