The criminal trial of former Namangan city mayor Anvar Otakhujaev and five other individuals has commenced at the Uzbekistan District Criminal Court, according to the press service of the Fergana region courts.
Of the six defendants, all male, three are in custody, while the remaining three have been released on a pledge of proper conduct.
According to the investigation, the defendants are charged under multiple articles of the Criminal Code: Article 167 (embezzlement or misappropriation), Article 168 (fraud), Article 205 (abuse of power or official authority), Article 206 (exceeding power or official authority), Article 209 (official forgery), Article 28,209 (complicity in official forgery), Article 210 (bribe-taking), Article 28,211 (complicity in bribe-giving), and Article 212 (mediation in bribery).
Otakhujaev was detained in September 2025 during an operational operation. He was appointed mayor of Namangan in December 2023, having previously served as the mayor of Chartak district from 2019 to 2023.
