A resident of the Payaryk district in the Samarkand region has been held accountable for illegally destroying a tree. He was ordered to pay a multi-million sum fine and compensation for damage to the plant world.
The inspection was prompted by social media reports of trees being uprooted in the Istiqlol mahalla of Payaryk district. Officers from the district ecology department promptly visited the site and confirmed the violation.
It was found that while leveling a plot for housing construction, the citizen uprooted one fruit tree along with its roots.
A case was opened against the violator under Article 79 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility. He was fined 25 times the base calculation value — over 10 million soms (about $770). Additionally, he must compensate for damage to the plant world — over 1.2 million soms (about $92). In total, the violator will have to pay over 11.5 million soms (about $885).
Earlier, a court in the Bukhara region ordered a company to pay over 1.3 billion soms (about $100,000) for illegally cutting down 154 valuable trees.
