According to the press service of the Ministry of Transport, the fleet expansion is aimed at improving the passenger transportation system, combating traffic congestion, and enhancing environmental cleanliness and traffic safety in the ancient city.
The equipment was supplied by Progress Mega Trans LLC. Although the specific brand and country of manufacture of this batch have not been officially disclosed, the purchase is part of a large-scale modernization program. The new vehicles are planned to serve a recently created route network based on gross contracts, which ensures adherence to a strict schedule.
Bukhara is demonstrating a high pace of public transport renewal: in February alone, 25 buses from China arrived in the city. Overall, during the 2023-2025 period, the northern region has received 116 buses and 45 minibuses of Chinese production. The large-scale purchases are supported by infrastructure changes provided for in the city's master development plan.
The transport development program in Bukhara includes the launch of 21 new routes, the installation of "smart traffic light" systems at 113 intersections, and the creation of dedicated lanes for public transport on 7 central streets. These measures are intended to make travel around the city more predictable and comfortable for residents and numerous tourists.
