As of April 1, the volume of cash in circulation in Uzbekistan reached 66 trillion soums, an increase of 14 trillion soums (nearly 27%) compared to the same period last year, according to the Central Bank.
In the first quarter of 2026, cash turnover through banks amounted to 330 trillion soums, up 25% year-on-year. Cash receipts to banks grew by 34 trillion soums (26%).
During the three months, the population withdrew 71 trillion soums in cash from their cards. However, the volume of newly issued cash decreased by 2.6 trillion soums.
The share of cash in the total money supply stood at 16.9%, down 1.7 percentage points from a year earlier. The number of banknotes in circulation fell by 262 million units, remaining at 2.184 million units.
The most popular banknote remains the 100,000-soums, accounting for 36.2% of all cash. The 200,000-soums note ranks second with 30.6%, followed by the 50,000-soums at 18.3%.
The share of 20,000-soums notes was 6.2%, 10,000-soums — 4.4%, 5,000-soums — 3.1%, 2,000-soums — 0.6%, and notes up to 1,000 soums — 0.5%.
Over the quarter, the share of 200,000-soums notes increased the most — by 2.1 percentage points, while the share of 20,000-soums notes saw the largest decline — by 0.9 percentage points.
