Uzbekistan has set a target to increase the green coverage of its territory to 30% by 2030. This goal is part of systematic efforts to combat climate change and desertification, which are severely impacting the development of Central Asian countries.

The announcement was made during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's speech at the opening ceremony of the 59th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The head of state noted that to achieve these objectives, the nationwide project "Green Space" is being implemented, under which 200 million seedlings are planted annually.

Significant work has already been carried out on the dried-up bed of the Aral Sea, where 2 million hectares of protective forest plantations have been created. This helps improve the ecological situation and prevent dust storms.

The Asian Development Bank supports the region's environmental initiatives, allocating at least 50% of its annual funds to climate projects under its Action Plan until 2030. To enhance the effectiveness of these efforts, Uzbekistan proposed launching a joint regional project called the "Green Belt of Central Asia."

Experts believe that this initiative will not only ensure environmental sustainability but also help adapt to climate change and slow down desertification processes in the region. The project is also expected to strengthen cooperation among Central Asian countries.
