A fatal traffic accident occurred in the Marhamat district of Andijan region, where a truck struck a pedestrian, resulting in his death at the scene. This was reported by the regional police press service.
The incident took place on April 26 at approximately 17:05 on the 41st kilometer of the D-140 highway “Shahrikhon — Asaka — Marhamat — border of Kyrgyz Republic”, in the territory of the “Mustaqillik” neighborhood.
According to reports, a 20-year-old driver operating a KamAZ-5511 truck failed to notice a pedestrian crossing the road at a designated crosswalk and hit him.
The 39-year-old pedestrian died from his injuries at the scene. A criminal case has been initiated by the Marhamat district police, and an investigation is underway.
Earlier, in the Yakkasaray district of Tashkent, a Cobalt car struck a 78-year-old pedestrian, who also died at the scene.
For reference, in the first three months of 2026, Uzbekistan recorded 1,102 road accidents resulting in 346 deaths. Analysis shows that 32.9% of accidents were caused by speeding, 22.4% by ignoring traffic lights, and 13.6% by drivers failing to yield to pedestrians.
