On May 1 at around 21:40, heavy rains led to water entering several homes in the Vorukh Dasht and Yangikurgan mahallas of Rapkon village, Beshariq district, Fergana region. Emergency services are currently working to eliminate the consequences of the flood. A Kun.uz correspondent visited the site and prepared a report.
“When I returned home, the walls and veranda had collapsed,” said Tursunbibi Khusanova. According to her, at around 22:00 on May 1, a relative called to warn that a mudflow had hit the upper village and water might reach them. “I went outside – water was already in the yard. I woke the children and dressed them. We left the house and moved to another place. My husband came and tied the livestock near the veranda. The next day I came back – the street wall had collapsed. There were two toilets and a bathhouse in the back – they were also destroyed. The tandyr and the veranda behind the house collapsed too. Luckily, water didn’t enter the main house, only the bathhouse. We are cleaning up now. The khokim came to inspect the area. Neighbors are helping through hashar. They promised to help as much as they can.”
“Water entered five of my houses,” said Ilkhomjon Dekhkonov. He recalled that a similar mudflow occurred in 2019, causing even more damage, including destruction of residential buildings.
“Damage assessment is underway,” said Ortikali Isamiddinov, chairman of the Nuroniy Foundation in Beshariq district. He reported that around 21:00 on May 1, heavy rain caused water to enter the yards of over 90 homes in the Vorukh Dasht mahalla. No people or livestock were harmed. Response teams have been working since then. A working group is visiting the affected homes to assess the damage. Assistance will be provided to the victims as much as possible.
Akhliddin Alijonov, head of the press service of the Fergana Regional Emergency Management Department, stated that necessary forces and resources have been deployed to eliminate the flood consequences, and the damage will be repaired as soon as possible.
