On February 25, a serious traffic accident occurred on Nukus Street in the Mirabad district of Tashkent, Uzbekistan. A 16-year-old private school student, Doniyor Turgunov, driving without a license, was behind the wheel of a BMW M4 owned by 22-year-old Leyla Atadiyanova when he struck traffic police inspector Khosilbek Eshnazarov. Videos from the scene quickly circulated on social media, drawing public attention to the incident.

The injured inspector was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries and remained in critical condition under medical supervision. Despite efforts to save him, Junior Sergeant Eshnazarov passed away on February 28 without regaining consciousness. He is survived by his parents, wife, and three children, highlighting the personal tragedy of the event. An investigation into the crash revealed systemic negligence: since 2024, the BMW M4 had accumulated 37 serious traffic violations and was involved in 18 instances of being driven by unlicensed individuals.

The teenager's parents had faced administrative penalties twice for failing in their parental duties: in September 2025 for their son's school truancy and in January 2026 after Doniyor was caught driving an unlicensed BMW X5 and evading authorities. The father publicly admitted to negligence, but previous preventive measures and fines had proven ineffective. Following the incident, the Mirabad district prosecutor's office initiated a criminal case.

Doniyor Turgunov's actions have been charged under two articles of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan: Article 267 (unlawful possession of a motor vehicle) and Article 104, Part 3, Clause "d" (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm resulting in death). The minor has been placed in pre-trial detention. By presidential decree, Junior Sergeant Khosilbek Eshnazarov was posthumously awarded the "Jasorat" (Courage) medal, and his family has been allocated a three-room apartment in Tashkent as compensation.
