Ahror Tohirovich Burxanov has been appointed as Uzbekistan's first Consul General in Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States. The diplomat officially announced this appointment on his social media page. This move is part of Uzbekistan's efforts to expand its diplomatic presence in the United States.
Prior to this appointment, Burxanov served as the Press Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs since February 2023. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the International Westminster University in Tashkent and a master's degree in development policy from the Korea Development Institute's School of Public Policy and Management.
Burxanov began his career in the diplomatic field at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working in various departments including the Directorate for Cooperation with the UN and Other International Organizations, the Consolidated Information and Analysis Department, and the Information and Analytical Center for International Relations. His experience spans a wide range of international relations and diplomatic engagement areas.
Previously, Burxanov also worked at the Uzbek Embassy in the United States, where he handled bilateral relations concerning media, public diplomacy, tourism, education, and healthcare. Additionally, he was responsible for fostering mutual ties between Uzbekistan and Brazil.
It is worth recalling that Uzbekistan's Ambassador to the United States, Furqat Sidikov, announced plans on January 17 during a meeting with ambassadors and entrepreneurs to open three new consulates in the United States. According to a presidential decree, these consulates are to be located in Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington. Burxanov's appointment marks a significant step in implementing this expansion plan.
