Starting April 1, Uzbekistan plans to establish at least 150 kilometers of 'green walls' in the Surkhandarya and Syrdarya regions to prevent dust storms. The National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change announced this, citing a relevant presidential decree.
According to the document, dendrological gardens will be created on the territory of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences and its adjacent 250 hectares, as well as on 83 hectares in the Tashkent and Kibray districts near the Central Asian University for Environmental Studies and Climate Change.
The measures aim to reduce anthropogenic pressure on the environment amid accelerating climate change, urbanization, industrial and transport development, prevent atmospheric air pollution, and stimulate the adoption of clean and resource-saving technologies.
