Uzbekistan has announced the results of its crackdown on the illegal use of energy resources for the first three months of 2026. According to Uzenergoinspektsiya, the detected damage from thefts of natural gas and electricity amounted to about 196 billion soums, indicating intensified oversight by regulatory authorities.
During regular raids and inspections, 885 cases of direct resource theft were recorded. The damage was almost evenly distributed between two sectors: illegal electricity consumption (49.7 million kilowatt-hours) cost the state 94.4 billion soums, while losses of natural gas (34.6 million cubic meters) exceeded 101.6 billion soums.
In addition to combating direct thefts, inspectors actively worked to prevent violations of network usage rules. During the reporting period, 1,599 administrative protocols were drawn up. Simultaneously, strict monitoring of the petroleum products market was conducted: specialists managed to prevent the sale of over 4,000 tons of low-quality fuel, with surrogate gasoline and diesel identified in 180 cases at gas stations and industrial enterprises across the country.
Alongside punitive measures, the inspection is implementing technological solutions to reduce the load on the system. For instance, special reactive energy compensation devices were installed for 2,293 large consumers. This measure has already saved 19.4 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, equivalent to the consumption of a large residential area.
