Uzbekistan has recorded a decrease in the number of births and an increase in deaths during the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year, according to data from the State Statistics Committee.

As of April 1, the permanent population of Uzbekistan stood at 38,382,700, up 1.8% from the corresponding period in 2025.

In January-March 2026, 191,100 live births were registered, with a birth rate of 20.2 per 1,000 people. The number of births decreased by 7,000 compared to the first quarter of 2025.

The number of deaths reached 43,500, with a mortality rate of 4.6 per 1,000 people. This represents an increase of 2,100 deaths compared to the same period in 2025.

Among newborns, 98,500 were boys (51.5% of total) and 92,600 were girls (48.5%); 93,700 were born in urban areas (49.1%) and 97,400 in rural areas (50.9%).

Among the deceased, 24,300 were men (55.8% of total) and 19,200 were women (44.2%); 23,900 died in urban areas (54.9%) and 19,600 in rural areas (45.1%).
