Law enforcement authorities in Uzbekistan have prevented a contract killing orchestrated by a 54-year-old woman in the city of Zarafshan, Navoi region. The regional police department reported the incident.

According to the police, a family dispute sparked the woman's anger towards her son-in-law. Initially seeking to 'reason' with him, she later decided to have him killed. She hired two men, born in 1992 and 1994, for 40 million soums (approximately $3,200).

Police officers staged the assassination, filmed a fake video, and sent it to the woman via social media. She accepted the video and transferred 2.3 million soums of the agreed amount to the hired men's bank cards.

During a joint operation by the Navoi regional police, Zarafshan city police, and the State Security Service, the woman was caught red-handed.

A criminal case has been opened under Article 104, Part 2 of the Criminal Code (Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm). Investigation is ongoing.

Previously, a similar contract killing plot was foiled in Samarkand region. In early May, a man in Tashkent allegedly hired a hitman for $10,000 to kill his wife.
