A 54-year-old woman in the city of Zarafshon, Navoiy region, is suspected of attempting to orchestrate an attack on her son-in-law due to family disputes, according to the regional Internal Affairs Department press service.
Investigators allege the woman, unable to accept her niece's unhappiness, sought to 'restore justice' by having her son-in-law beaten into a state of mental incapacity. She reportedly hired two acquaintances, born in 1992 and 1994, to carry out the assault.
'I told you yesterday: do whatever it takes, if he dies, his family won't let it go, they'll find me and you. Make him mentally ill, understand? So he can't tell who hit him or what happened. Beat him deaf, tear out his hair, kick his liver, let him die later. So no one says you did something to your wife. Don't mention us, please. Will you send the video later?' the suspect allegedly said in a conversation.
Police staged the attack and sent video footage to the woman. She reportedly received the videos 'with joy' and transferred 2.3 million soums of the agreed 40 million soum fee to the assailants' bank card, at which point she was arrested with evidence.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 104, Part 2 of the Criminal Code (Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm). Preliminary investigations are ongoing.
Earlier, a man in Tashkent was arrested for hiring a hitman to kill his second wife in a religious marriage. He promised $10,000, paying $2,000 upfront. Police staged the woman's death and caught the suspect at the scene. He has been charged and remanded in custody.
