Officers at the specialized customs complex 'Tashkent-Aero' together with colleagues from relevant services thwarted an unusual smuggling attempt: a parcel from Thailand, declared as dried fruits and sweets, contained walnuts stuffed with marijuana.
According to documents, the parcel was supposed to contain dried fruits and sweets. However, inspectors were suspicious of ordinary walnuts, which are widely available in Uzbekistan and not typically imported. Inspection confirmed their suspicions: some walnuts were filled with a narcotic substance.
The operation continued in the Sergeli district, where a 43-year-old man who came to collect the parcel was detained. Forensic examination revealed that 120 walnuts contained over 285 grams of marijuana.
A criminal case has been initiated, and the materials have been handed over to investigative authorities.
This is not the first time dangerous substances have been disguised as food products. Earlier, 'Tashkent-Aero' and the State Security Service prevented an attempt to import synthetic drugs disguised as sweets.
