A former police officer in the Khorezm region of Uzbekistan has been sentenced to four years in prison for a fatal road accident caused by drunk driving. The 30-year-old man, who worked as a junior prevention inspector in the Urgench city police department, was found guilty of causing a crash while intoxicated.

The tragedy occurred after a friendly gathering organized to celebrate a friend's upcoming wedding. According to court documents, the officer got behind the wheel of a Cobalt car after drinking vodka. Despite warnings from friends, he refused to let a sober driver take over.

Witnesses reported that the man accelerated to 120 km/h on a narrow road. After hitting a pothole, he lost control, crashed into a concrete barrier at high speed, and the car overturned. A passenger, identified as H.F., sustained severe injuries and died in the hospital.

During the trial, the defendant fully admitted his guilt but claimed his speed was lower, around 70-80 km/h. The victim's father rejected a compensation offer of 2 million soms from the defendant's family and demanded a harsh punishment.

The Shavat District Criminal Court sentenced the former officer to four years in a penal colony and revoked his driver's license for three years.
