A 46-year-old man has been detained in the Khiva district of Uzbekistan's Khorezm region on suspicion of extorting money from a 40-year-old woman. The suspect gained her trust and obtained access to her private photos and videos.
He then threatened to publish the materials on social media unless she paid him 16 million soums. The perpetrator allegedly exploited the woman's vulnerable state.
Law enforcement officers arrested him at the moment he received the money. A criminal case has been opened under Articles 141 (invasion of privacy) and 165 (extortion) of the Criminal Code. An investigation is underway.
Earlier in Tashkent, a criminal group of five young people aged 18 to 21 was dismantled for serial extortion via social networks. They created female profiles on Telegram to attract men, then beat them and demanded large sums under threat of distributing intimate videos.
