Uzbekistan's U17 national team secured a dramatic victory over South Korea in the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup, advancing to the semi-finals after a penalty shootout. The match ended 2-2 in regular time, with Uzbekistan prevailing 5-3 in the shootout.
The game took place at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and started badly for Uzbekistan, as South Korea's Moon Ji-hwan opened the scoring in the 22nd minute.
However, Uzbekistan turned the game around before halftime. In the 41st minute, Akhrorbek Ravshanbekov capitalized on a goalkeeper error to equalize, and in first-half stoppage time (45+2), he scored again to put Uzbekistan ahead 2-1.
In the second half, South Korea pushed hard for an equalizer, substituting their goalkeeper, and finally succeeded in the 88th minute when Ahn Seong-hyeon leveled the score, sending the match to penalties.
In the shootout, Uzbekistan held their nerve. The decisive moment came when South Korean player Park Kyung-hoon missed his penalty, securing a 5-3 victory for Uzbekistan.
With this win, Uzbekistan's U17 team booked their place in the Asian Cup semi-finals, where they will face Japan. The match is scheduled for May 19.
