The State Security Service (SSS) of Uzbekistan has announced the initiation of criminal cases against two officials suspected of taking bribes in exchange for reducing tax debts and providing employment.
In the first incident, which occurred in the Bulungur district, an accountant of the state institution 'Accounting Center' allegedly promised to reduce a tax debt of 150 million soums owed by a farm through his connections. He reportedly received 3 million soums initially and later demanded an additional 15 million soums. He was caught red-handed along with the deputy head of the district tax inspectorate while receiving the money by SSS and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes.
In the second case, a former deputy governor of the Kattakurgan district, who held the position in 2025, allegedly received 14 million soums for securing a job at the district medical association for a citizen born in 1986. However, he failed to fulfill his promise. During an operational operation, the former official was detained while returning $1,000 of the received amount.
