On May 21, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with the Chairman of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, Mufti Sheikh Nuriddin Khaliqnazar, according to the presidential press service.
The President, through the Mufti, congratulated all pilgrims currently in the holy city of Mecca on the occasion of Eid al-Adha and wished for their prayers to be accepted.
It was noted that in recent years, more than 15,000 citizens from Uzbekistan perform the Hajj pilgrimage annually. This year, for the first time, 100 compatriots, including labor veterans, mahalla activists, elderly, and representatives of low-income families, were sent on Hajj at state expense.
The President inquired about the conditions created for the pilgrims and the organizational work. Mufti Nuriddin Khaliqnazar reported that necessary conditions have been provided for pilgrims in Mecca and Medina, and prayers are being performed collectively.
The conversation also touched upon the religious and educational reforms being implemented in the country. In particular, it was emphasized that complexes such as the Imam Bukhari Complex, the Center for Islamic Civilization, and the Burhaniddin Margilani Scientific-Educational and Tourism Complex serve to promote the heritage of ancestors.
Additionally, it was noted that additional funds have been allocated to support needy populations on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, to perform complex surgical operations on more than 10,000 children, and to treat about 2,000 seriously ill patients.
At the end of the conversation, the President sent greetings to all pilgrims, wishing for their prayers to be accepted and their safe return home.
