Customs officers at the specialized post 'Tashkent-Aero' in the Uzbek capital's international airport have foiled an attempt to illegally export cultural valuables from the country.

During a customs inspection of hand luggage belonging to a Uzbek citizen traveling to Baku, 24 gold coins were discovered that had not been properly declared.

To determine their historical and cultural value, the find was sent for expert examination to the Cultural Heritage Agency of Uzbekistan. According to experts, the coins, minted between 1897 and 1911, are classified as cultural valuables and hold historical significance.

Their preliminary estimated value is around 219 million Uzbek soums. Experts also recommended transferring the seized items to the Precious Metals Agency under the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.

It is noted that under national law, the export of cultural valuables created more than 50 years ago is prohibited. Procedural actions are underway regarding this incident.

Earlier, in the Mubarek district of Kashkadarya, a man was detained for attempting to sell ten gold coins from the era of Nicholas II for 71 million soums.
