Turkish National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler announced that Ankara has dispatched a group of military advisors to Uzbekistan to assist in reforming the country's armed forces. According to Güler, “friendly and brotherly countries” are interested in establishing army structures based on the Turkish model, and Uzbekistan is one of them.
The minister specified that the group of military advisors was sent to Uzbekistan, similar to a previous deployment to Azerbaijan. In January 2026, the defense ministers of Uzbekistan and Turkey signed a cooperation plan that includes joint exercises, personnel training, and military-medical cooperation.
The model being implemented by Turkey in Uzbekistan has already been tested in Azerbaijan. Following the signing of the Shusha Declaration in 2021, military cooperation between Turkey and Azerbaijan became systematic. The document strengthened allied relations, including elements of military integration and mutual support obligations.
Under this cooperation, Baku modernized its army according to Turkish standards, increased the number of joint exercises, and established close cooperation in the defense industry, including the use of Bayraktar drones.
