Captain Sherbek Turkhonov from the Karmana district of Navoi region was awarded a cash prize of 12.3 million soms (30 times the base calculation value) for his uncompromising stance against corruption, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.
Traffic police officers at the 'Samarkand' checkpoint stopped a Lacetti driver traveling on the Samarkand-Navoi route. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol, and an administrative protocol was drawn up.
The following day, the driver's father approached the officers, asking them not to submit the documents to court and to release the vehicle from the impound lot. He offered a bribe of $1,000. Despite repeated warnings from the officers that bribery is a criminal offense, the citizen persisted.
'Look, I warned you 20 times. It's impossible,' the inspector says in the operational video. Based on the inspector's report, an operation was conducted jointly with the regional department of the Main Security Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the department under the General Prosecutor's Office. The citizen was caught red-handed while handing over the bribe.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 211 (Bribery) of the Criminal Code, and an investigation is underway. The officers who reported the violation were rewarded by the ministry. By order of Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Diyorbek Sattarov, collective gratitude was announced to the personnel of the 2nd mobile group of the traffic police battalion in Navoi region.
