On June 2, Tashkent International Airport welcomed the first regular flight of Armenia's Shirak Avia airline on the Yerevan-Tashkent route. Uzbekistan Airports reported that direct air services between the capitals of Uzbekistan and Armenia have been restored after decades.
The inaugural flight from Yerevan brought 127 passengers to Tashkent. According to aviation tradition, the aircraft was greeted with a water salute, and crew members were presented with flowers.
On the same day, a ceremony was held at Tashkent International Airport to check in passengers for the first flight on the Tashkent-Yerevan route. The first flight to the Armenian capital departed with 177 passengers.
The new route is expected to boost tourism, business ties, and cultural cooperation between the two countries.
Flights are operated once a week on Boeing 737 aircraft. It was noted that before the opening of this route, passengers traveling between Uzbekistan and Armenia had to use transit flights via Moscow, Istanbul, Tbilisi, and other cities.
Earlier, it was reported that direct flights between Tashkent and Yerevan would be launched from May 2026.
The issue of establishing direct air communication between Tashkent and Yerevan was discussed back in 2017 during a meeting between the Prime Ministers of Uzbekistan and Armenia, Abdulla Aripov and Karen Karapetyan.
Shirak Avia is an Armenian airline based at Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan. It has been operating since 2019 and flies to a number of international destinations. Its fleet consists of Boeing 737 aircraft.
