On June 8, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was presented with information on the implementation of major investment projects in the copper industry and future plans.
Copper is becoming a strategic raw material for industry, energy, electrical engineering, the digital economy, and green development. In this regard, special attention is paid to expanding geological exploration, efficient development of existing reserves, deep processing of raw materials, and production of high value-added products.
In March of this year, the first stage of the 3rd copper processing plant was launched at the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine. The $2.7 billion project is being implemented on an area of 196 hectares under the development program for the Yoshlik-1 deposit. Upon reaching full capacity, the plant will process 60 million tons of ore per year and produce about 900 thousand tons of copper concentrate.
The presentation included data on the launch of subsequent stages of the plant, the establishment of technological processes, and the timely achievement of planned capacities.
A clear schedule has been set for the phased commissioning of ball mills in the crushing shop and flotation lines. By the end of this year, the task is to increase ore processing volumes at the 3rd copper processing plant, fully launch all main technological chains, and ensure production stability.
After the full launch of the 3rd copper processing plant, the daily production volume of copper concentrate at the combine is planned to increase from 2.4 thousand tons to 5 thousand tons. The introduction of modern technologies will reduce energy consumption and costs, and increase labor productivity.
The meeting also considered accelerating the development of the 4th copper processing plant project. Currently, basic engineering documents are being prepared, and earthworks and geological drilling are underway at the construction site.
In implementing this project, taking into account the experience of the 3rd plant, special attention is paid to optimizing technological solutions and economical use of energy and water resources.
Measures were also defined to improve technological chains for gravity separation, flotation, concentrate drying, and tailings thickening, as well as to prepare a feasibility study for attracting funds from foreign financial institutions.
Responsible officials were tasked with allocating necessary land plots for the 4th copper processing plant, continuing preparatory work at the construction site, completing basic engineering documents on time, and clarifying the phased launch schedule of the project.
