A court in the Denov district of Surxondaryo region has sentenced members of a criminal group called 'Alpha' for hooliganism and extortion, according to a report on the MY5 TV channel's 'Hudud' program.
According to the investigation, a 28-year-old resident of Denov district, together with four accomplices, formed the group 'Alpha' with the aim of easy money. They committed several acts of hooliganism and extortion.
In one incident, group members forcibly placed a citizen into a car and demanded $2,500. They also took the keys and documents of the victim's Labo car. The incident was reportedly filmed.
In another case, upon learning that an acquaintance had been in a traffic accident, group members went to an emergency medical unit. There, they disrupted public order, disturbed the peace of citizens and patients, and threatened doctors and other people at the scene. They also actively resisted lawful actions of law enforcement officers.
The court reviewed the criminal cases and sentenced the defendants to various terms of imprisonment. According to the verdict, two defendants were sentenced to 3 years, one to 5 years, and two others to 5 years and 1 month in prison.
It was previously reported in January that six members of the 'Alpha' group, involved in hooliganism, had been detained in Denov district. At that time, a criminal case was initiated under Article 277, Part 3, Clause 'g' (Hooliganism committed by a group of persons) regarding the hospital incident.
