A delegation of Uzbekistan, led by Senate Chairperson Tanzila Narbayeva, held a series of meetings with heads of international organizations during the 114th session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva. The discussions focused on labor reforms, development of social protection, and implementation of international decent work standards.
A key meeting was with Beate Andres, Head of the Office of the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO). The sides paid special attention to large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan in labor relations, strengthening the social protection system, and ensuring decent work principles. The ILO representative highly appreciated the transformations and expressed readiness to expand cooperation.
A meeting was held with Martin Chungong, Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. They discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the organization, as well as parliamentary reforms. Chungong praised Uzbekistan as an active and reliable partner, noting democratic reforms and parliamentary openness.
At a meeting with Luc Triangle, Secretary-General of the International Trade Union Confederation, issues of protecting labor rights, developing social partnership, and exchanging experience in labor relations were discussed. The sides noted the results of reforms in Uzbekistan's labor legislation.
With Peter van Rooij, Director of the ILO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, the draft country program for decent work for 2026–2030 was discussed. Special attention was paid to labor market development, improving employment quality, and strengthening social protection.
The series of meetings concluded with talks with ILO Director-General Gilbert Houngbo. He highly appreciated the participation of the Uzbek delegation and the reforms being carried out. They discussed the results of the "Better Jobs" program and the prospects for opening an ILO office in Tashkent.
Within the conference, a high-level international event "Red Card to Child Labour: From Marrakech to Action" was held. Uzbekistan presented the results of reforms in labor, social protection, and education. Narbayeva emphasized that victory over child labor is possible only by eliminating its root causes — poverty and insufficient social protection, as well as expanding access to quality education and decent employment.
