According to the regional emergency department, the tragedy occurred on June 8 in the territory of the Namuna mahalla in the Jarkurgan district of the Surkhandarya region.

Six 18-year-old 11th-grade students came to swim in the Surkhan River, which flows through the settlement. A strong current swept away three teenagers, and they drowned.

It is reported that one of the teenagers did not swim. The other five went swimming, but the strong current pulled them underwater. A local police inspector, assistant inspector, and mahalla chairman who were nearby rescued two of the young men.

On the same day, divers recovered the body of one victim from the water. The next day, the body of the second young man was found. The search for the third victim's body is ongoing.

It is noted that the deaths of three young people in the river are not the first such incident in the region. Residents have been urged not to swim in unauthorized places and to only relax on the water in specially equipped and permitted areas.
