President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a law regulating the procedure for conducting strikes. The document stipulates that if a collective labor dispute cannot be resolved through conciliation procedures, the labor collective may decide to go on strike.
Participation in strikes will be voluntary, and coercion to support or refuse a strike is prohibited. The decision to strike must be made at a general meeting of employees, with more than 50% of those present voting in favor, and the decision must be made at least one month before the event.
Additionally, the trade union committee must notify the employer in writing within one working day. The employer, in turn, must inform the authorized state bodies for the resolution of collective labor disputes about the upcoming strike. The law will enter into force on September 12, 2026.
Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan introduced liability for violations of strike legislation. Organizing a prohibited strike may result in up to 3 years of imprisonment.
