Khadija Yusupova, a prominent figure in Uzbek maqom art, professor, Honored Artist of Uzbekistan, and renowned classical maqom performer, has died at the age of 87. The announcement was made by the Uzbek National Maqom Art Center.
Yusupova was born in September 1938 in the city of Namangan. She began singing at the age of three.
In 1956, she won first place at the Youth Festival in Moscow, and in 1957, she was hired by the Uzbek State Philharmonic. Later, she performed in an ensemble at Uzbek Radio alongside artists such as Berta Davidova and Kommuna Ismailova.
Starting in 1958, she was a member of the "Maqom" ensemble founded under the leadership of Yunus Rajabi, where she deeply studied and masterfully performed masterpieces of maqom art. On republican radio and television, she skillfully performed numerous classical songs such as "Shohi belbog'," "Kongil ol," and "Savti Sabo," contributing to the golden treasury of national music.
From 1988, she taught traditional performance at the Tashkent State Institute of Arts named after Manon Uygur (now the Uzbekistan State Institute of Arts and Culture).
