Uzbekistan national team defender Abdukodir Khusanov has sent a shirt with his autograph and the words 'I am sorry' to a cameraman who was injured during a World Cup match against Colombia. The Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA) confirmed the gesture.
The incident occurred in the first half of Thursday's Group K match. The 22-year-old Manchester City player collided with a broadcast cameraman while trying to challenge Colombia striker Luis Diaz for the ball near the touchline.
The cameraman received medical attention and was taken to hospital. Later, UFA representatives visited the injured man and presented him with Khusanov's signed shirt. The player also wished him a speedy recovery.
'Our defender wished the cameraman a speedy recovery and conveyed his sincere wishes,' the UFA statement read. Khusanov received a yellow card for the incident.
Uzbekistan lost 1-3 to Colombia in their first-ever World Cup match. Head coach Fabio Cannavaro said he was proud of his players but stressed that the team must learn from mistakes that led to goals.
Uzbekistan's next match is against Portugal on June 23, kicking off at 22:00 Tashkent time.
