Since 1993, Uzbekistan has annually celebrated June 27 as the Day of Press and Mass Media Workers. On the eve of the holiday, on June 25, the 'Uzarchive' agency opened an exhibition titled 'History of Journalism on Archive Pages' at the Tashkent House of Photography.
The exhibition features over 100 photographs from the National Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents of Uzbekistan, covering the period from 1930 to 2025, as well as images provided by the Creative Union of Journalists. Most of these historical photos are being shown to the public for the first time. Personal photo archives of renowned announcers Muslimbek Yuldoshev and Nasiba Ibrohimova are also on display.
Director of 'Uzarchive' agency Ulugbek Yusupov stated: 'Last year, when we presented the first exhibition, there were certain difficulties in selecting documents. This year, the materials are not repeated. Personal funds donated to the archive by our veteran journalists are also included. I sincerely congratulate all media workers on their professional holiday.'
The photo documents capture interview processes, the work of central and local newspapers and magazines, television and radio studios: preparation of TV programs and broadcasts, filming and sound recording, round tables, and press conferences on various topics. The activities of the first announcers, directors, and operators, as well as famous and beloved hosts, are highlighted.
Famous announcer Nasiba Ibrohimova commented: 'I want to emphasize that this exhibition kicks off the festive events on the eve of Media Workers' Day. Thanks to the great courage and enthusiasm of archive staff, these documents are being brought to the general public. The exhibition reflects the stages of television development.'
Muslimbek Yuldoshev added: 'There are thousands of photos and films in the archive funds that capture the work of several generations of journalists. The public and young creators should see these documents. This exhibition is very timely. I have donated many materials to the state archive. At home, long-term preservation is not guaranteed, but in the archive, the whole society benefits.'
At the event, Muslimbek Yuldoshev and Feruza Gulomova, editor of the 'Dunyo bo'ylab' TV channel, were awarded the 'Soha iftixori' badge of honor by the 'Uzarchive' agency. Additionally, several journalists received certificates of honor and commemorative gifts. The exhibition will run until July 3.
