Uzbekistan is bracing for extremely hot weather over the weekend, with forecasters predicting temperatures to soar to 43–44°C in the southern regions on Sunday.

According to Uzgidromet, Friday, June 26, will be dry across most of the country, except for Karakalpakstan and Khorezm region where brief thunderstorms are possible. On Saturday, light rain is expected in some areas of Tashkent region and the Fergana Valley.

Sunday will bring unstable weather to the northwest: heavy rain is forecast in parts of Karakalpakstan and Khorezm region. No precipitation is expected in other areas.

Winds will strengthen to 13–18 m/s, with gusts up to 20–22 m/s in the north and desert zones, accompanied by dust devils. Daytime temperatures will range from 35–40°C in most regions, locally up to 42°C, and 43–44°C in the south.

Cooler weather is expected in Karakalpakstan and Khorezm region: 32–37°C, dropping to 23–28°C in northern Karakalpakstan on Sunday.

In Tashkent, Friday will be dry with temperatures of 37–39°C. Saturday may see brief thunderstorms, with highs of 38–40°C.

Sunday will be dry in the capital, with the mercury reaching 39–41°C. Nighttime lows will be around 23–26°C. Dust devils may occur in some parts of the city.

Earlier, Uzgidromet issued an emergency warning about possible mudflows, floods, and local inundations in nine regions of Uzbekistan, due to heavy rain expected from June 28 to July 3.
