A 33-year-old man in Uzbekistan's Khatyrchi district has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the brutal murder of his 6-month-old son, the district criminal court announced.
The tragic incident occurred on January 9, 2026. The man entered the room to rest, but was angered by the baby's crying. In front of relatives, the father stuffed a sock into the child's mouth, grabbed him by the arms and shook him, causing the baby's head to hit the wooden part of the sofa, leading to clinical death.
The mother rushed the infant to the hospital, but despite doctors' efforts, the child died on January 14 at 11:30 a.m.
According to the official forensic medical examination, death was caused by hemorrhage under the dura mater and pia mater and into the cerebellum, brain and pulmonary edema, and acute respiratory failure.
Initially, the criminal case was opened under Article 104, Part 1 (Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm). Following the trial, the man was found guilty under Article 97, Part 2, paragraphs "c" and "g" (Premeditated murder with extreme cruelty of a person known to be in a helpless state).
