On June 23, the Andijan region's central stadium saw 20,000 people simultaneously perform the 'Andijan Polka' dance, setting a Guinness World Record. Among the participants was 15-year-old Farrukh Nematov, an 8th-grade student from School No. 14 in Asaka district.
Returning from the event, he was involved in a traffic accident in a Damas minibus driven by the school principal. At an intersection, while turning left, the minibus was hit by a ZIL truck and overturned. Farrukh sustained severe injuries and died the following day, June 24.
The victim's mother, Durdona Kosimova, stated: 'The day before, the class teacher insisted that I send my son to the event. He left home happy. We thought the children would be taken by special buses. Now they say they 'voluntarily got into the Damas.' In fact, the organizers of this mass event should have arranged safe transportation for the children.'
According to relatives, the bus left while the children were changing clothes. The school principal took the remaining students in his Damas. Six students were injured in the accident, two remain hospitalized. No official comments from authorities have been obtained. An investigation is ongoing.
