An employee of the district ecology department in Buvaydin district was detained during an operational event while receiving a bribe of $9,500. This was reported by the press service of the regional Department of Internal Affairs.
It was found that the official demanded $10,000 from a citizen for inaction over a period of one year. In exchange for this reward, he promised not to take measures regarding the illegal felling of wild trees and clearing of sandy areas on a four-hectare plot located in the "Arab" mahalla of Buvaydin district.
During the special operation, not only the inspector but also an intermediary were caught red-handed. During a search of the intermediary's car, law enforcement officers also found substances resembling narcotics.
A criminal case has been initiated under Articles 168 (Fraud) and 211 (Giving a bribe) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan. The investigation is ongoing.
Interestingly, this inspector had previously been mentioned in the news. In November 2025, the deputy khokim of Buvaydin district used force against him. According to official information, the conflict occurred after the inspector tried to stop illegal tree felling and document the violation.
