At the 'Dustlik' border customs post in Andijan region, customs officers foiled an attempt to illegally export a large sum of foreign currency. A 51-year-old man hid $35,600 inside his traditional Uzbek skullcap (tubeteika) and tried to take the money to a neighboring country.

The violation was detected during customs control. The passenger did not declare the cash in the customs declaration nor mention it during an oral interview. The discovered currency was seized in accordance with established procedures.

The Customs Committee reminded that residents of Uzbekistan are allowed to export foreign currency equivalent to up to 100 million soums. A customs investigation is currently underway.

Earlier, in Fergana region, officers from the State Security Service and customs authorities prevented an attempt to illegally export precious metals to neighboring Kyrgyzstan.
