The President of Uzbekistan has signed a decree on additional measures to improve the efficiency of mahalla management, the Ministry of Justice reported.
According to the document, if a court or investigative body grants a request to mitigate the punishment of a mahalla resident who has committed a crime for the first time that does not pose a great public danger or is a less serious crime, the responsibility for his re-education will be placed on the “mahalla seven.”
If necessary, members of the “seven” must also assist in the vocational training, employment, or enrollment of such a person.
If the citizen on probation does not commit new crimes or administrative offenses within three years, members of the “mahalla seven” who actively participated in his re-education will be additionally rewarded.
The innovation will come into force on July 1, 2026.
