Customs officers at the Dustlik border post in Uzbekistan's Andijan region have uncovered two attempts to smuggle gold items. During inspections of two citizens arriving from a neighboring country, officers discovered jewelry weighing 228 grams hidden inside mobile phones.
Another citizen employed a more unusual method: he concealed a 24-gram gold bar under his tongue, attempting to pass it off as a candy. However, he failed to get through customs control, and the item was seized.
Preliminary estimates indicate that a total of 252 grams of gold items and bars were confiscated, with a combined value of approximately 400 million Uzbek soums (around $32,000). The seized items have been placed in storage as material evidence.
Pre-investigation checks are underway regarding the violations. Earlier, at the Uzbek-Tajik border in Tashkent region, an attempt to smuggle jewelry worth 85 million soums was prevented.
