The Uzbek government has begun paying off subsidy debts to individuals under the 'Solar House' program. According to the Tax Committee, 60,193 individuals participating in the program will receive 156.125 billion som in subsidies from the state budget for solar energy fed into the grid (156,125,388 kWh at 1,000 som per kWh) for April-May.
The largest subsidy amounts go to Khorezm (29.1 billion som) and Bukhara (27.1 billion) regions, as well as Karakalpakstan (19.1 billion). One Kun.uz subscriber reported receiving 9.386 million som for April-May, while another reader got 9.5 million som for two months.
Earlier, Kun.uz published articles about payment delays and discussed the issue with economist Otobek Bakirov. He noted that subsidies to individuals have started, but debts to entrepreneurs selling solar electricity have not been paid for about six months.
Bakirov previously called the suspension of subsidies without explanation 'a breach of trust' and urged the government to fulfill its obligations to investors. Notably, neither the Ministry of Energy nor the Ministry of Economy and Finance has given official explanations for the delay. The Tax Committee's statement on July 2 also did not specify reasons.
For comparison, in January-March this year, 45,200 individuals received subsidies totaling over 73.9 billion som. The number of subsidy recipients increased by 15,000 (33%) compared to March.
