President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan has proposed constructing hotels adjacent to hospitals as part of a strategy to develop medical tourism. The announcement came during his visit to the Global International Hospital multi-specialty medical center in the Sergeli district of Tashkent.
According to the presidential press service, the center was built with $30 million in investments and is capable of serving over 150,000 patients annually. The facility has created 250 jobs and employs foreign doctors as well as more than ten specialists who have undergone advanced training abroad.
During the visit, Mirziyoyev inspected the surgical, intensive care, and treatment departments, as well as the situation center. He emphasized the importance of integrating medical and tourism services, instructing officials to study international best practices and develop hotel infrastructure at hospitals.
"Along with providing each patient with quality and dignified services, it is necessary to harmoniously combine medical and tourism services. This direction should be widely promoted, foreign experience studied, and hotel infrastructure at hospitals developed," the president stated.
Mirziyoyev also tasked the center with becoming a base institution for certain medical fields and expanding access to modern services for the population.
Earlier, the president visited Yangi Sergeli Street in the Ittifoq neighborhood of Sergeli district, where he reviewed completed work and the operations of trade and service facilities.
