Tashkent, Uzbekistan – AN Podrobno.uz. Deputy of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Gulrukh Agzamova, sent an inquiry to Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov, highlighting a number of problems in the operation and condition of the metro.
Agzamova also asked the minister what measures are being taken to preserve the historical appearance of the stations. The Tashkent metro is not only an important transport system for the capital, but some stations also possess historical and architectural value, attracting foreign tourists thanks to their unique architecture and artistic design.
According to the deputy, despite the ongoing modernization of the transport system and expansion of the metro network, the technical condition of certain facilities raises serious questions.
The inquiry identifies water leaks in tunnels and on platforms as one of the main problems. This could negatively affect both the strength of the structures and passenger safety.
The inquiry states that at the Beruni, Gafur Gulyam, Alisher Navoi, and Kosmonavtov stations, water infiltration is damaging ceramic panels, and some decorative finishes have already become unusable. This threatens the preservation of the stations' historical appearance.
Special attention is paid to the state of infrastructure. It is noted that in some sections, canals and ditches are eroding the soil near metro bridge supports, which could affect the stability of the structures. Cases of bridge damage by oversized vehicles have also been recorded.
The inquiry also notes that some equipment needs updating. Escalators at the Chorsu, Gafur Gulyam, and Alisher Navoi stations, installed back in 1984, require replacement. One of the traction substations on the Chilanzar line, commissioned in 1977, is also outdated.
Another problem is the insufficient accessibility of the metro for people with disabilities. According to Gulrukh Agzamova, some lifts work intermittently, and there are no tactile paths for visually impaired passengers at underground stations.
The inquiry proposes that the Minister of Transport present a plan within 10 days to eliminate leaks, strengthen structures, update equipment, and create an accessible environment for passengers.
Recall that under the above-ground metro lines in Tashkent, it is planned to develop commercial and service facilities.
