The construction of a multi-story residential building in the Sergeli district of Tashkent has been suspended after numerous violations were discovered, according to the Inspection for Control in Construction and Housing and Communal Services under the Cabinet of Ministers.
An inspection revealed that storage rules for construction materials were violated, and the construction site and its surroundings were not cleared of flammable waste. Additionally, in several parts of the building, reinforced concrete cores were found to be of poor quality and not in compliance with project requirements.
An inspector demanded a halt to all construction work until the violations are fully rectified. "You are making a structural defect, brother. Tomorrow, human life depends on this. This is a multi-story residential building. People will live here. Think about the consequences, brother. Therefore, until everything is fixed, you will stop construction and redo it," the inspector said in a video released by the inspection's press service.
Responsible parties were issued mandatory written instructions to eliminate the violations. The demolition of the substandard reinforced concrete cores has begun on site.
The inspection noted that enhanced monitoring of construction sites is ongoing across the capital. Earlier, Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services Sherzod Hidoyatov advised citizens to check whether a property is registered in the "Transparent Construction" system before purchasing.
In June, proposals to tighten liability for illegal construction were submitted to the president. In 2025, the number of identified illegal constructions reached 1,952. In May, the Senate sent a parliamentary inquiry to the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services regarding corruption risks and oversight in the construction sector.
According to Senator Zumrad Bekatova, in 2025, 1,601 cases of substandard construction work worth 29 billion soums were detected. In 2024, this figure was 63 billion soums. "Buildings being commissioned today must not become a source of danger for our compatriots tomorrow," the senator said.
