Labor leave is a period when an employee does not work but retains their position and average salary. Under the new Labor Code (effective from April 30, 2023), leave is calculated in calendar days, with a minimum basic leave of 21 calendar days.

Leave can be basic or additional. Additional leave is granted for harmful working conditions, unfavorable climate, and long service. For every 5 years of service, 2 additional calendar days are given, but not exceeding 8 days in total.

Vacation pay is not a bonus but an advance on earnings. Formula: Vacation pay = (Average monthly salary ÷ 25.3) × Paid leave days. 25.3 is the average number of working days per month under a 6-day workweek.

All leave days are paid except Sundays and public holidays. Saturdays are paid. For example, a 21-calendar-day leave results in 18 paid days (3 Sundays excluded).

The cost of a working day depends on the month: the more working days, the cheaper each day. In 2026, the most profitable months are July, April, June, and December. The least profitable are May, January, February, March, and August.

Example: With a salary of 10 million soums, a two-week vacation in May results in a loss of 1.34 million soums, while in July it yields a gain of 395,000 soums. The difference exceeds 1.7 million soums.

Leave can be split into parts, with one part at least 14 calendar days. The remaining days are recommended to be taken in short segments (Monday-Saturday) to avoid wasting balance on unpaid Sundays.
