Amid an abnormal heatwave, residents of Tashkent have again raised the issue of modern bus stops, complaining that they offer no protection from the scorching sun.

The discussion was sparked by a post in the 'Potrebitel.uz' group, whose author showed a stop near the Northern Railway Station and called it unsuitable for waiting in nearly 50-degree Celsius heat.

According to the author, the stop is just a canopy that barely shields passengers from the sun. He noted that such structures are becoming more common in the city despite numerous complaints from citizens.

'Old people and children stand at these stops every day, not just for five minutes. It's almost 50 degrees outside. Who came up with these stops?' the author wrote.

The post sparked active discussion. Many users supported the author, saying the modern stop pavilions offer poor protection from sun, rain, and wind. Some recalled the old stops being demolished across Tashkent, noting they provided much better shelter with closed walls and benches.

Comments also questioned the designers and city authorities who approved such designs. 'They were invented by someone who never uses public transport,' one user wrote.

Earlier, the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan proposed revising the approach to equipping public transport stops in Tashkent and launching a pilot project of 'green stops' to make waiting for buses more comfortable in summer heat.
