A fire broke out on July 10 at the solid waste landfill in Ahangaran district, Tashkent region, due to improper waste management. Ecological inspectors and environmental police conducted checks on July 11-12 regarding air pollution in Tashkent.
The investigation found that the landfill manager was held administratively liable and ordered to immediately extinguish the fire. However, a follow-up inspection revealed that the order was not carried out and the fire continued on July 11. The manager was fined again under Part 2 of Article 91 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility.
Laboratory tests showed significant exceedances of pollutants in the air: carbon monoxide – 10.7 times; formaldehyde – 12.2 times; nitrogen dioxide – 12.8 times; sulfur dioxide – 9 times; hydrogen sulfide – 1.5 times above the permissible limit.
Based on the analyses, the state enterprise Maxsustrans was charged a compensation payment of 683 million 870 thousand soums for damage to the atmosphere. Relevant documents are being prepared for submission to judicial authorities.
The Ecology Committee noted that construction of the landfill began in 2021 but it has not yet been officially commissioned. Despite this, since May 2025, household waste from Tashkent has been transported and disposed of at this site.
